Freshman Research Initiative (FRI)
Students in all CNS Honors programs receive automatic admission to the Freshman Research Initiative (FRI), one of the nation's premier undergraduate research programs. Beginning in their first year, students work alongside faculty and researchers on cutting-edge scientific projects while gaining hands-on research experience. For many students, FRI serves as the foundation for future research opportunities, senior thesis work and graduate or professional study.
A Supportive Learning Community
CNS Honors brings together students who are intellectually curious, motivated and eager to learn from one another. Honors students take courses together, form study groups, connect with faculty through Friday lunches and informal gatherings, and build lasting relationships that support both academic and personal success. The result is a collaborative community where students encourage one another to excel.
Community Beyond the Classroom
The CNS Honors experience extends well beyond coursework. Throughout the year, students have opportunities to connect through faculty dinners, coffee chats, camping trips, guest speakers, workshops and other social events. These shared experiences foster friendships, strengthen the honors community, and help students develop a sense of belonging from their first semester on campus.

The experiences students gain through CNS Honors prepare them for success long after graduation.
