The Dean's Scholars Honors Program offers students a unique educational experience at the University of Texas at Austin: The atmosphere of a small school, with all of the advantages of a large research university. The program supports a wide range of activities and programs that encompass social, recreational, and academic areas.
FORT DAVIS TRIP
Every year, the Dean's Scholars take a weekend trip to McDonald Observatories in Fort Davis, Texas. Activities include tours of the many observatories, a Star Party, and hikes in scenic West Texas.
Registration for the trip will open several weeks before the trip.
FRIDAY LUNCHES
Every Friday at noon Dean's Scholars gather to eat a free catered lunch and listen to an academic speaker. The subjects of the lectures range from soccer-playing robots to the mating dances of spiders, and lunch is provided by local favorite restaurants. There is always a Q&A session for students after the lecture.
INTRAMURAL SPORTS
The Dean's Scholars play any and every sport against other on-campus student organizations.
PORT ARANSAS TRIP
During the spring semesters, the Dean's Scholars take a weekend trip to the Marine Institute at Port Aransas. Students are invited on UT owned boats for a marine excursion and opportunities abound for independent exploring of the beach and the small town.
RESEARCH
All Dean's Scholars are invited to do research with a faculty member. Our program assists students in finding a suitable faculty researcher in preparation for their senior thesis.
